I saw these plates on my friend, Heather's blog, Create H Design , and instantly fell in love with the whimsical design. Definitely bookmarking these guys for a later date!

I think this has to be the coolest mirror I have ever seen. It's actually made out of recycled cement bags! Talk about re-purposing, eh?

Designing on (less than) a Dime

Now, being a single mom with health issues preventing me from working, I'd be lying if I said my apartment wasn't sparse in the decorations department. But despite the cash-flow issue, I am extremely slowly but surely making my way to a fully decorated space.

And believe me, if *I* can do it, ANYONE can.

Since I have hundreds of dollars worth of craft supplies scattered in various storage locations spread throughout my apartment, I always try to start there first.I rummage through the bins, boxes, and so-forth that contain the odds and ends I have accumulated, hoping to find something that sparks my creativity. Whether its as simple as a piece of pretty cardstock that ends up as a simple decoration for the season, or a canvas that, with a few splashes of paint becomes a piece of art, there is almost always and endless plethora of creations that can spring from there. My creations may not always be of professional quality, but anything that ends up a permanent or at least a semi-permanent fixture in my home is something that I feel I can relate to, or brings up emotions that convey what my sense of style is.

My other favorite way to contribute to the style of my home is to play the thrifty card. This takes some creativity as well, but it really is easier than it sounds. One of my absolute favorite things to do is to dig around and find things to fit into my home, or to re-purpose into something that does. One of my favorite places to do so is the yearly run of the garage sales around town. There are so many of them in my town that there is no limit to what you can find! Another perfect spot is that little $1 and $2.50 section in Target. I have found some of the most exquisite vases and wall-pieces there that were screaming for me to re-purpose. Many things found there don't even need any changes. You just need to be diligent and check back often.

Do you have any special ways to decorate on a budget? I'm sure we could all use new ideas!
